2017… And so it begins.

I almost just shot a coyote! My god… how life has changed. But if a creepers gonna creep on my flock, I’m going to have to take them out. Just call me Laura Ingalls effing Wilder. No, don’t do that. I don’t think she’d…

2016 Goals

We’re baaaaaaaaack! So apparently we’ve been through some sort of Space-time Continuum here on the farm. Like seriously, what day is it? It seems like only yesterday I was 8 months pregnant and reminiscing to the slow pace our lives once were in 2015….

A farmer’s life for me…

2015 is officially half over and I must say, we do have much to show for it. The weather has been sunny and HOT here in Northern BC and although it’s nice to see the sun, this Northern girl has a love-hate relationship with…

Last market of the season!! Come see us @thevintageaffairfsj at the Evangel Chapel in FSJ. We’re here until 4 🎄
We’ll have a limited number of shirts available this weekend at @thevintageaffairfsj - they are an amazing fit and quality and we just ❤️ them
The kids and I spent the morning stamping our own recyclable wrapping paper. Traditionally, I’ve done this myself for the past few years so I’m happy to have some helpers this year! I keep a few Christmas stamps on hand, used my brown and gold ink pads and bought a roll of parcel paper - voila! Make sure you buy parcel paper without wax or plastic coating to ensure it’s recyclable. Makes for a fun morning and incredible gift giving ❤️
I’ve been pretty quiet on here as of late, mostly due to a busy market season and some travel. We recently got back from a wonderful trip to my parents for American Thanksgiving and had some tragic news to come home to. A dog had gotten into the chicken yard and killed most of our flock while we were away. I’m absolutely heartbroken and completely humbled. We went from a flock of 30 hens and a rooster that I’ve been perfecting over the last 5 years, to 5 hens and our rooster. Rollo has been in mourning for the last few days and I just recently convinced him to come out of the coop. I believe the ones who were left alive just happened to be in the coop when it happened and were smart enough to stay there. Farm life is hard. It’s emotional. It’s all encompassing. Anyone who knows me knows that I love all of my animals dearly and have a special bond with each and every one of them. They all have names. They all have a job and a purpose. We do this life all together, as a team. I’m reeling, just trying to get my head around this trying to figure out next steps. We have a large coop that makes it harder to over winter a small amount of birds so there is some problem solving to do. I’m thankful that I have a few chooks left, but my heart aches for those sweet souls we lost. 💔
